Master of Medical Sciences (MMedSc)

 

The Master of Medical Sciences (MMedSc) is the longest-running taught postgraduate programme at the LKS Faculty of Medicine.  With a legacy of academic excellence, the programme has been strategically redesigned to meet the dynamic needs of modern healthcare, medical research, and precision medicine.  Whether you're a researcher, clinician, or healthcare professional, the MMedSc equips you with the advanced knowledge, practical skills, and interdisciplinary exposure needed to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes through research and evidence-based practice.

The programme offers 7 specialisations grouped under 2 thematic tracks, allowing students to focus on areas most relevant to their interests and career aspirations.

Class Arrangement

Classes are normally scheduled on weekday evenings and Saturdays (sometimes Sundays) at the HKU Main Campus, HKUMed Campus or Queen Mary Hospital

Class Format

Most classes are held in person, with occasional hybrid/online sessions

Credit Requirement

Total 69 credits, including:

 

Core Courses (18-24 credits)

Specialised Courses (18-24 credits)

Capstone Experience (27 credits)


Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the degree of Master of Medical Sciences, a candidate shall:

(a) comply with the General Regulations;
(b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
(c) hold a Bachelor's degree with honours of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or from another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
(d) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required; and
(e) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of qualification from a university or comparable institution outside of Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to higher degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).

Fees and Scholarships

Composition Fees (2026/27 Intake):

HK$198,000 p.a. (1-year full-time)

HK$99,000 p.a. (2-year part-time)
